GSTHow to verify an e-Aadhaar PDF signature (with password)
Updated June 2026 · 5 min read
The e-Aadhaar you download from the UIDAI website is a digitally signed PDF, and it's protected with a password. Both facts trip people up. This guide covers the exact password format and how to confirm the UIDAI signature so you can prove your e-Aadhaar is genuine and unaltered.
RAJU1988.Verify it in three steps
- Download your e-Aadhaar from the official UIDAI portal.
- Upload the PDF to our signature verifier. When the password popup appears, type the password shown above.
- Click Unlock & Verify. The tool validates the UIDAI signature and shows the signer and signing date.
A green verdict confirms the file was issued by UIDAI and hasn't been modified since. Your document is deleted from our server automatically within two hours, and the password is used only in your browser session to open the file.
Why your e-Aadhaar says "Signature Not Verified"
UIDAI signs e-Aadhaar using a DSC that chains to an Indian CCA root. Adobe Reader doesn't trust that root out of the box, so it displays "validity unknown". This is the single most common reason people wrongly think their Aadhaar PDF is invalid. It isn't — it's a trust-store gap, and our fix guide shows how to clear it in Acrobat if you prefer.
Integrity: the real protection
The signature's biggest job is tamper-evidence. If anyone edits the address, the Aadhaar number or the photo in a PDF editor, the cryptographic hash no longer matches and verification fails with a red result. That's why a signed e-Aadhaar is far more trustworthy than a print-out that could have been photoshopped. To see how the hash comparison works, read our complete verification guide.
A note on privacy
Aadhaar is sensitive. We built this tool to run entirely on our own server with no third-party API calls, and uploaded files are auto-deleted. Still, only ever share your e-Aadhaar with parties who genuinely need it. Read our privacy policy for exactly how we handle uploads.
