How to verify a digitally signed degree certificate or marksheet

More universities and state boards now issue digitally signed degrees and marksheets, often through DigiLocker or their own results portals. For employers running background checks, for foreign universities processing admissions, and for students proving their credentials, the digital signature is the fastest way to confirm a certificate is authentic and hasn't been edited.

Who signs education documents

The issuing university, board or examination authority signs the PDF using a DSC from a licensed Indian Certifying Authority (many state boards, for example, use SafeScrypt/Sify certificates). The signer name usually identifies the board or a document-signer account — for instance a state board's secondary and higher-secondary education office.

Verify a degree or marksheet

  1. Download the digitally signed PDF from the university/board portal or DigiLocker.
  2. Upload it to our signature verifier.
  3. Click Verify and read the verdict, the signing authority and the date.

A green verdict confirms the certificate is exactly as issued and signed by a trusted authority. Because even a re-saved copy breaks the signature, this reliably distinguishes an original issued PDF from a scanned or edited version.

For HR and admissions teams

Verifying the signature is a quick first-pass authenticity check that complements any portal-based verification the board offers. If you receive documents in bulk, uploading each one here gives you an instant integrity-and-trust result without installing certificate chains on every machine. "Validity unknown" in Adobe is, as always, usually just the untrusted-CCA-root issue explained in our fix guide.
